Hey, there. How’s it going. Loooooonnnng time no talk.
Yours truly has just been plugging away at work and trying to save up to take some trips this summer. And, in the meantime, another front page I put together made the Newseum Top 10!
Credit for this one really belongs in large part to the Times’ David Wright for the illo. I wish I could have worked even more white space onto the front and played it up larger, but ….. you take that you can get, hmm? :}
the bachelor is terrible
Remember that illustration I posted last week? (look immediately down) I showed it to the big man at the studio (Hi, Nathan), and he liked it enough to send it on to someone else …. and it wound up being featured online by Charles Apple!
Man, is it sad, but hey, is it cool! Thanks, Nathan! Thanks, Charles!
And hurrrrrr it is again, for the pleasures of your eyeballs:
…. the one thing it did make me realize, unfortunately, is that my old school-period portfolio is still online and is being linked to. D: Egads!
proposition
Take a look at this page from this past week (one that I am particularly proud of, but that’s another story):
Zoom in on that photo of Biden and Obama …
Now:
It’s not, like, an exact match, but. Still. All I could think of while working.
tricked me once again
Brainstorming – or utilizing the pasteboard, really – in Jazbox is not what one would call easy. I was going to write up an entry about my creative process …. but I just can’t.
little dream
Guys. GUYS. This is crazy!
The page I designed for The Monroe News Star made The Newseum’s Top 10 Pages today! WOAH. This is crazy exciting. Here it is:
And here’s a link to see all of today’s top pages (I believe it refreshes each day). Here’s a link to the hopefully permanent post on the Newseum’s facebook page so you know I’m not bluffing, oh ho ho.
Did I even tell you all I had started my new job? As of October, I now work at the Gannett design studio in Des Moines, working on Louisiana papers (Monroe is my #1). There should be more to come! Looking forward to showing you all the things I’ve been working on.
retroactive
Long time no talk, isn’t that how it always goes? I had to check and make sure I hadn’t used that line last time.
I just wrapped up my time (with much sadness) at the Tulsa World last week and also finally have clips online so you can see what I’ve been doing. Most notable would be my tour de force, the Fall Movie Preview …
I LOVE HANDOUT ART AND FLOATING HEADS.
Now, I’ve got one more project to track down … but you can check out some of the rest at my portfolio!
the struggle
As I might or might not have mentioned before, I’m working as the design intern at the Tulsa World through the fall. This week, I got to do one of my first section covers. Here’s the cover from above the fold (and the goofy instagram I made of it):
And here’s the entire page!
Nothing super-revolutionary …. yet. One of my concerns here was getting all four of the kids interviewed on to the page and get their mugs as big as I could, as this would definitely be a cut-out-and-keep page for their families. Let’s see what comes next week.
