chains of love
Oh my gosh. Almost a whole month without a post (but over here, my capstone blog gets updated once a week).
In other news: this summer, I’ll be abroad for a month in the Netherlands and Belgium in a last-ditch study abroad with my drawing professor. Then, I’ll be coming back and shipping off to Tulsa to work as a design intern at theĀ Tulsa World for several month. Then, who knows?
Until then, I’ll be …. sewing.
I promise that the facial expression is part of the concept and not something I do normally (unless I’m in denial). I’ve been altering and embellishing this jumper for my fibers course. Eventually I am going to create a whole series of altered garments that more accurately display the desires of the person who might choose to wear them. Usually these desires are ridiculous, silly, or really quite funny.
This is my kitchen. On the far right you can see a photo of my brother and immediately to the right of my hand, a photo of me hugging an alligator (am I serious or joking?) in Honduras.

Happy holidays from the White House and me! (grammatically correct.) The past few days were spent doing all of the touristy things that I never got around to in the first 18 years I spent living outside of D.C.

Some attempted self-portraits from Anatomical yesterday.
I like it. But it doesn’t look like me.
Also reaffirmed that for things like faces where detail can make the face look too alien (at least for me?), working with vine charcoal as opposed to pencil is much more forgiving.
I then attempted to do one while holding my bangs back, soon realizing I couldn’t do so AND draw with my right hand. So, I attempted the 21st century solution used by teens everywhere: take a cellphone photo. Of course, I didn’t get the angle I wanted. See below:
Lol.

Don’t you hate when people post close-up images to the internet of tattoos on completely generic and unidentifiable parts of the body?
Did you know that, according to AP style, ‘Internet’ should actually be capitalized?
Also, have you seen this?
“your true self has become weak, alone and annoying.”
A waitress wished me a belated happy birthday last night, so I feel it is still appropriate to mention I had one the other week (the 23rd of September).
It was marked by mustaches (Xiu Xiu, my face) and the state of illinois.

Some potential Christmas card photos taken by the lovely Elaine outside Ashland, MO.
And thanks to my ever-patient roommate Brittany for operating the shutter on these next ones.

I think those photos where you try really, really hard to make it look like you’re not holding your camera or looking into a mirror are stupid. Get a tripod or a freaking stack of boxes, geez. So: I decided to take some that were really obvious and were of the faces that I enjoy making the most. I think they came out pretty fly, perhaps because I just really like looking at myself.
After all, most people will prefer a flipped photo of themselves, since that is the face they are most used to seeing in the mirror. STOP LYING TO YOURSELF. You do it, too.
Oddly enough I forgot to make FFFFFFUUUUUUUUU D:<.
