Recent work from anatomical drawing:
I’ve done a bunch of work I’ve been really pleased with this semester, but have been lax about documenting and posting. Here’s some more of it:
“Use gestures to express emotion.”
I have also spent the semester producing Bad Paintings so far in my Beginning Painting class, appropriately. There’s something I really enjoy about the act of painting, but there’s also something I just can’t yet seem to grasp. Bye, GPA.
Here’s a particularly Bad one for an assignment in which we have to copy an impressionist painting. Mine: Monet’s Poppy Field’s in Argeuntil. Not really my favorite sort of thing. I’ve been trying to find some joy in abusing the canvas and my paint and experimenting with brushstrokes.
But it really just looks like color vomit.
Belated blog post! Last Wednesday was the annual Fire Factor at MU, which meant …. we light things on fire. Specifically, a mock-up dorm room. It’s one of the more interesting fire safety demonstrations I’ve seen, and I finally was able to see – and get paid to record – it this year as a part of my job in the Res Life marketing department.
This pretty accurately sums up the room burn. Almost EVERYONE had a smartphone or camera out. You can see more photos I took on MU Res Life’s facebook page.
Internet famous! A photo posted by my boss.
Another exciting thing – I designed the T shirts for the event this year and got to see them distributed. Fingers crossed that I see someone in one at a party.
This kid really wanted one that fit well. Does that mean he’ll wear it out? That’s what I like to hear.
Now, you really should have been there, but if you weren’t, make sure to check out the video. You can see me act a fool around 2:31:
And, finally … the teaser trailer we released before the event.
Should’ve become an actor.
tomorrow won’t do
Some work from the beginning of the semester in Anatomical Drawing.
This semester, I’m really interested in not only improving my technical skill but also creating finished pieces and learning to make more purposeful lines.
This last one is several feet tall.
summer recap
The project that took up the second part of my summer: Welcome Back, a fall preview of sorts to events around Columbia in the coming months. Another student took the lead on the print design, but I conceptualized and created the calendars for both print and the online version (which I also did). The online e-book is available for download in PDF form.
Here’s a link to go download it from the Missourian site. If that ever goes down, download the PDF directly from me here: Welcome_Back.
I also got involved with some video editing and producing through my job in the marketing department at the MU Office of Residential Life. Here’s a preview we released for some future projects …
The school year’s started again, which means painting (I dislike it so far), infographics and anatomical drawing (highlight of my week) should dominate future posts. Let’s see what happens.
or not
It’s the end of the semester! Well, it actually was last week. Here are some of the final drawings from my Anatomical Drawing class.
Thank goodness.
watch that buzz
Finished a project for 3D this week…and it works. By “works,” I mean, “it is wearable,” and, “it lights up.” At least, it would if the lightbulbs hadn’t already blown out. Perhaps I will purchase new ones/one with a higher voltage. Additionally, “it is totally useless.”
Is it not mysterious and alluring? Not at all? What?
And, have one photo from the very brief performance/documentation, courtesy of my lovely roommate:
“people tell me to leave places, sometimes.”
Quick clipout assignment. What else would I make it of? I don’t own this tail or Kylie Minogue. I just found them on Google.

Some things that I have been working on for class:
1)Reference for Anatomical Drawing for an assignment to draw a figure with at least 4 arms + hands. Photos by Howard Schartz and Beverly Ornstein, snappy photoshop job by me. I’ve completed the assignment, but hate it and am completely restarting it this weekend. (via the blog of comic artist Nina Matsumoto)
2) Shoddy mockup for 3D design, for a public works project. Photo of the OSU Thompson library pulled from Google. Know anything about aluminum or thermoplastics? Talk to me.
waiting on the last drawings and stuff
I’m back at the Missourian this semester, this time as a news designer. This is serious work, not the usual rinky-dinky stuff you’ve seen from me as of late.
(How serious am I?)
First assignmentmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeent (I was cleaning chocolate off of the keyboard) was a photo page on preparation for SNOWPOCALYPSE 2011. We dont’t ever have average snow anymore.
Here’s an early version of the page:
…… aaaand the final version that appeared in print Thursday:
You’ll probably see a lot of this in the coming weeks.
