Updating has been perhaps lax because I’ve had to start up another blog for my Advanced Design capstone … which you can see here. I’ve spent 5 of the past 7 evenings in the newsroom, was there earlier today and will be back tomorrow to work on this. I’ll be updating there weekly with projects and other design-related things.

Finished this several days ago and consequently almost forgot to turn it in today several times. Fourth assignment for magazine design, in which we had to create an illustration for either a story on electronic junk or cloning puppies. I chose puppies, duh.

To very rough potential drafts for my Illustration assignment for Mag Design. The story: cloning people’s pets – what’s the deal? I am leaning towards continuing to develop the bottom idea to introduce the human action of cloning into the story…either way, I need to do some serious work on continuing the edit the test tubes. No way is the pug not making it into the final version.

LOOK AT THE CHOW CHOW. Google “Chow Chow” and try not to bust a gut giggling.

So we’re learning the basics of illustration-making in Magazine Design.

I have a confession. I found this on Google images (search ‘cookie monster’) and live traced it.

But I’m seriously considering just handing this in.

Last post for today. 3rd magazine assignment: part of a photo essay. While my second project is still definitely my favorite, this didn’t turn out completely awful. The concept: migrant train culture and learning the dangers to be avoided. I worked hard to try and make the action and perspective of each photo work well with its placement on the page to actively suggest motion…the pullquote weren’t too shabby, either.

Totally forgot to upload the final version. Grid assignment for Mag Design! Very pleased with the final result, about to head back to lab for another critique.

Now I also really want to go scuba diving. Sharks, you guys.

Department page assignment for magazine design. Just took a break to pause and assess my progress. Look at these colors. I just can’t get away from blue + pink + green. My room used to be that color combo, till I kicked that to the curb by buying a new bedspread last year. Things have worked out much better since.

Current focus: the right page of this and the configuration of it. I really like the fox box (remember that?) in the bottom right corner, but it doesn’t seem anywhere near fantastic to have two helvetica neue headlines next to eachother. To switch the placement or switch the box? Only the next few hours I put into this will tell.

Input appreciated, plz, questions, thanks, hugs, baked goods. I need to trim my bangs again.

Magazine Design Ass(ignment) One! May put more work into this over the weekend. The ‘e’ key on my keyboard is sticking. Man I am jittery on caffeine. This never happens to me. Thoughts, plz.
